  • The Heidelberg Restaurant

I felt like eating German food today and I really miss the crispy pork knuckle that I had in Munich so I was searching for a nearby German restaurant here in NYC. This on came out to be one of the closer ones so we gave it a try. It was at the Upper East Side of town and it looks like it was in a small German neighborhood. The waitresses were all dressed in German costume and the restaurant was decorated with German folk art. We started off with a beer of course and then decided on what to order. I ended up getting Schweineshax which is a true Bavarian specialty - roasted pork shank, with sauerkraut and boiled potato.

That thing was huge and funny how they served it with a knife stabbed at it. It would have been so wrong if it was in a Chinese restaurant. It was really crispy on the outside and very tender in the inside. We were so full that we ended up walking back from 86th St back to 47th St as we needed to exercise!
